Kasiana Jimenez: 5-Step Critical Analysis Process
The following critical analysis is based on Alejandro Caceres’s post on the article by “El Pais”, Scale of coronavirus third wave pushes Spain to pledge more help for businesses. It will be a 5-Step Critical analysis.
Description: The Pais describes the negative economic impacts of the third and current wave of Covid-19 on Spanish Businesses and how the EU and the Spanish government have been handling it. Both the European Central Bank( ECB) and the International Monetary Fund( IMF), have stated that Spain has spent less money on the effort than other countries on combating the economic effects of the Covid-19 Crisis. The report that was seen by EL PAÍS highlights the need for measures “indispensable to avoid a premature withdrawal of support, and to organize schemes to assist viable businesses.” The article highlights the regional governments' responses to wanting their demands for direct aid to be heard. Given that these areas are mostly tourism-dependent areas. It was supported by the Bank of Spain Governor Pablo Heredez de Cos. The artículo also takes into account the hardships that business will face in the future, in terms of debt.
Analysis: In the reading we can see that it is directed towards Spain and their economical responses to the current pandemic. The language that is being used would make it seem that the author is doing a comparative analysis of Spain and other countries responses econoimcaly towards the pandemic.Which it would seem that the Spain has not been doing the best in this area that other european nations have been. The author still remains uses data and facts to showcase where it seems Spain has lacked and needs to improve in their economical plans for the future of the nation.
Interpretation: As we analyzed the patterns that were found in the article, we can see that the main concern for the author is trying to understand what will happen with the economics of Spain after the third wave of Covid-19. It looks at the responses of Businesses of all sizes, trying to maintain their business afloat. As well as, detailing how the Government wants to increase direct aid to them.
Evaluation: The article has been informative and fair on how effects that the third wave of covid-19 has and will affect the growth of economics in Spain. It was informative on how the areas most affected would depend on tourism.
Engagement: This article's main purpose is to discuss the economical situation that is happening because of Covid-19. It also sheds light on some faults that have taken place in terms of the relief pages and the debt that has increased in the nation of Spain. This would not be the first time that Spain has been faced with an economical crisis
Good contribution Kasiana, I'm glad that you chose to analyze an article that leads with the economic impact of Civid in this part of the world (as most of your classmates chose to focus on the virus itself and recent news regarding vaccination and protection from infection). I wonder if you feel this article oscillates towards objectivity or opinion. Most discontent voices with the way in which the Spanish governemt has handled the pandemic have focused on the lack of economic support for small and medium business. Do you think this article is bias in any or seems to be neutral in its reporting? Finally, in the engagement stage, you need to explain how you would be taking action towards any of the issues that had emerged in your evaluation. For instance, if you feel that the article is redundant or does not really bring anything new to the table: how would you take civil action to engage your friends and the public in a response towards inaccurate or partisan reporting?
